Our first rescue horse was adopted in 1995. At the project we aim to share our passion for horses with anyone who shows an interest there is NO AGE LIMIT and you need NO EXPERIENCE to come and learn how to handle and care for these special animals. Just being around them is very therapeutic and a good way to take the stress out of life.

If you are keen to ride we take pupils at any level from beginners to competitive riders or you can do groundwork i.e. grooming walking lunging etc. Cleaning stables grooming cleaning tack are all part of the day-to-day tasks that helpers may be involved in. Every day is different at the project - You don’t need any experience just come and enjoy the experience!
The project is situated about 30 minutes drive from the city center & it is near the suburb of Bellville & Kraaifontein.

Age group: 18+ years, if families – kids from the age of 10 can participate in the program under the supervision of their parents.
Interests : Horses/ Dogs/ Nature/ Equine Sports/ Equine-assisted therapy/ Animal
Assisted Therapy
Personality: All personality types – when people work with abused animals we often
experience a personality change.                                                                                    Health: Good health is always a plus – we would like volunteers to be open and honest about their health prior to arrival.

We advise volunteers to visit their travel clinic/doctor to acquire the necessary vaccines before traveling to South Africa.

There are festivals throughout the year including cheese wine chocolate etc. Stellenbosch is a historic town with a huge university and world-class restaurants. There are also many farmers markets in the surrounding areas. We are close to many wine routes.

Accommodation is in dorm-style rooms self-catering or meals are available on request. The accommodation includes a small breakfast.

Bedding: Volunteers can bring their own sleeping bag should they wish or purchase one in South Africa for roughly $42 - $50

Volunteers will be expected to work an average of 4 hours per day which can be combined or split depending on the project also weekends are usually our busiest time, so free time is better allocated during the week.

We usually start at 7:30 am with feeding and checking the horses followed by breakfast and discussing the tasks for the day.
